Tsuen Wan West Station

Tsuen Wan West (Chinese: 荃灣西站) is an underground MTR station on the West Rail Line located in Tsuen Wan, the New Territories, Hong Kong. It is located between Mei Foo and Kam Sheung Road stations. There is an emergency platform on the southern side of this station. The construction of the station was very complex. It required the diversion of some roads, the demolition of two factories, part of a nearby park, and the relocation of a ferry pier which originally occupied the site. There is a large bus and minibus interchange above the station, connecting it with most residential areas, factories, as well as shopping centres in the area. However, the station has had little passenger traffic since operation, prompting some to claim that it is the least used station on the system.[citation needed] At present, only a small number of residents in a few nearby residential estates and workers from nearby factories use the station. However, with the opening of the 80 storey Nina Tower (如心廣場) in 2007 [1], traffic is expected to increase.[citation needed]Nevertheless, the waterfront promenade built along with the station's construction connected the two ends of Tsuen Wan, significantly improved the scenery of the area, and provides a leisure place for many residents of southern and western Tsuen Wan.It should be noticed that although the station is at the same region of Tsuen Wan Station, the fare is quite different each other. For example, passengers have to pay HK$1.7-4.0 more if they are going to Hong Kong Island, although it is faster and more convenient. Besides, only out of system interchange is available for the pair.

Tsuen Wan is the northern terminus of the MTR Tsuen Wan Line in Hong Kong. It is the only station on the Tsuen Wan Line that is at ground level. It is located at the northern central part of Tsuen Wan New Town, and its next station is Tai Wo Hau.It was the westernmost station in the MTR system until the opening of the Airport Station in 1998. It was also the northernmost station in the MTR system until the MTRCL took over the operation of the KCR network in 2007 on a 50-year lease and effectively merged the two systems.

The Yuen Yuen Institute (Chinese: 圓玄學院) was established in Hong Kong in 1950 by monks from Sanyuan Gong (Three Originals Palace) in Guangzhou, which in turn traces its lineage to the Longmen (Dragon Gate) sect of Quanzhen (Complete Perfection) Taoism. The Institute is located on hectares of land around Sam Dip Tam, Tsuen Wan District in the New Territories. The area is interspersed with temples, pavilions, and monasteries. The Yuen Yuen Institute is the only temple in Hong Kong dedicated to all three major Chinese religions: Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. The first three Chinese characters of the Institute's name denote the essence of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism respectively, so as to advocate the integration and realization of the three religions' teachings. The main building at the Institute is a replica of the Temple of Heaven (Tian Tan) in Beijing. In 1968, Moy Lin-shin co-founded (together with Taoist Masters Mui Ming-to and Mrs Tang Yuen Mei) the temple for the Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism on the grounds of the Yuen Yuen Institute.

Shing Mun (Chinese: 城門) is an area between Tsuen Wan and Sha Tin in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It is formerly, as suggested by its Chinese characters, a gate between the two areas separated by a range of hills. The Shing Mun Valley carries water to Shing Mun River. Before the construction of Shing Mun Reservoir, there were several villages near the valley. Some of these villages were later relocated near the Tsuen Wan entrance of Shing Mun Tunnel. The area played a major role in the defense against Japanese Invasion of Hong Kong. Gin Drinkers Line is across the area.Because there were many major constructions and geography features in the area, Shing Mun may mean one of the following by context:Shing Mun TunnelShing Mun Country Park, which contains the Shing Mun ReservoirShing Mun RiverShing Mun Redoubt, which housed command HQ for the Gin Drinkers Line
